You will not get logs shown in the photos, but ones nearly identical.
You will get 2 large white oak logs, 4.5 to 6.0 inches in diameter.
Oregon White Oak (Quercus garrayana), is known to be the best tree available in North America for growing various type of edible mushrooms:
Shiitake
; Pink Oyster, Yellow oyster, Blue Oyster, Pohu Oyster, Phoenix Oyster, Lions Mane, Chicken of The Woods, Elm Mushrooms, and others. Basically any commercial mushroom plug will do exceedingly well on Oregon White Oak.
While you can find many sellers of mushroom plugs, if you live in the city, or the suburbs, finding satisfactory logs can be difficult if not impossible.
The Oregon White Oak we are offering comes direct from our property. As I write this, they are still standing, green. We do not harvest, until we are ready to ship.
Our logs will be harvested with a chain saw using vegetable oil as a chain lubricant. This way, no petroleum-based products can enter the mushroom food chain.
Our logs will range from 4.5 inches to 6.0 inches in diameter. They will be shipped with the bark intact, but brushed to remove loose moss, bark, etc. Oregon White Oak is a very heavy and dense wood. Tests have show that our logs weigh about 75 –80 pounds per cubic foot. To attempt to make shipping more affordable, we are offering these logs in sizes that will fit in a large flat rate priority mailer. While some suppliers of mushroom plugs suggest logs up to 3 to 5 feet in length, shipping logs this size is quite expensive. Our logs will be 4.5 to 6.0 inches in diameter, and almost 12 inches long. We can of course ship longer lengths, but the freight is very expensive. Email me for details.
Simply follow the plug manufacturer instructions, and you will have some of the best tasting, and best medicinal mushrooms around; mushrooms from fresh Oregon White Oak logs.
You simply drill holes into our fresh cut oak logs and tap the plugs into the holes as per the plug suppliers instructions. Place the logs in shade and water a few times a week (again follow manufacturers instructionz).
These logs (regardless of length), should produce fresh mushrooms for 3 to 5 years, if tended properly as per the instructions provided with the specific mushroom plug you use.
Each log will take 20 to 25 plugs per log, depending on mushroom type and plug suppliers recommendations.
So, here is what you get: You will receive a large flat rate priority box with 2 white oak logs, guaranteed to weigh at least a minimum of 16 pounds. (When weighed out, the packages actually weigh from 17 to 23 pounds.)
Our logs take up very little space for growing mushrooms, and once inoculated with the mushroom plugs of your choice, require no more care nor knowledge than a common tropical plant. Our logs may be used for growing mushrooms on a coffee table, counter, closet, corner or desk. They will produce mushrooms almost anywhere room temperature is maintained as long as they are watered, and plug suppliers instructions are followed!
