Wine Cap mushroom stem butts for starting new patches. Cheap and effective.
Although this method may take longer it is a very cost effective way to start a patch.  Basically you dig a small hole, fill it with fresh wood chips and plant the stem but of the mushroom which then grows mycellim through the mass of wood chips.
In my Anchorage yard I have found it take me about a year from planting a stem butt to getting my first harvest.
I now have more mushrooms than I know what to do with!  Increase your food self sufficiency.  Although it takes a while to start getting harvests the patches will remain perennial and produce flushes for the rest of your natural life.  Feed them wood chips and they will feed you.

Wine cap mushrooms will also benefit the plants that grow around them.  The mycellium binds to plant roots making it easier for them to uptake nutrition, fend off pests, increase cold tolerance and fight disease.
